$2 Billion Verdict Against Monsanto’s Roundup Weed Killer
A state jury in California awarded nearly $2.1 billion in May to a couple in California who sued Monsanto after developing cancer due to prolonged us of Roundup.
Louisiana’s agriculture industry contributes more than $10 billion to the state’s economy every year — Louisiana farming has a huge impact across the state. Much like the couple awarded in the California case, Louisiana natives in the agriculture industry might have been exposed to the harmful ingredient, glyphosate, and could have caused cancer after prolonged use.
Glyphosate has recently been classified as a potential carcinogen by the World Health Organization. In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer also stated the chemical compound is probably carcinogenic to humans.
